We got all cleaned up and headed out to The Abbey, a restaurant/coffeeshop/bar in
West Hollywood that
had been recommended to us by several people familiar with Los Angeles. It was a little bit
of a drive from the hotel, but we managed to get there very quickly and even found parking
just a few steps from the place... for free!
The place looked really cool. We wandered around the bar area, as all of the tables were full.
Jonn grabbed a waiter and ended up getting him to find us a table. We sat and people-watched
while we ate an amazing meal.
After Jimmy had a few cocktails, we strolled around the bar, taking in the evening. It
was interesting to see the incredibly diverse crowd in attendance. The conventional
wisdom about Los Angeles and especially West Hollywood is that it's full of pretty people...
models, actors, gym rats, and the like. But at The Abbey, it was a great crowd. Sure,
there were plenty of attractive LA types... which were pleasant to look at...
but people from all walks of life were there which made us much more comfortable than we
expected.
Jonn did have a minor celebrity encounter... while walking towards the outside patio, Bobby
Trendy (of Anna Nicole Smith fame) walked by, giving a sly wink and a smile.
