Hooray for Hollywood
After the Bowl, we headed to our new hotel. It's a simple Best Western but apparently
in a very historical building. In talking to the front desk man, we were told that many movies
and TV shows were filmed there... including Swingers and Sex in the City. Most of the shots
were of the cute coffee shop/cafe in front called "The 101". It has all that classic 70s LA
look that really makes the experience real. Even the rooms in the hotel are classic...
all the rooms look out to a central courtyard with a blue-tiled pool. It's a really
great scene and a perfect place to stay in Hollywood!
Once we checked-in, we headed out to see the tourist sights. We drove down Hollywood Blvd to
the Kodak Theater and the Hollywood&Highland complex, honking and giving a "Hook 'em" to
any Texas fans we saw on the street. We parked underneath the Theater
and walked into the lobby. All along the lobby were pillars displaying the "Best Picture"
winners since the beginning of the Oscars.
Out on the street were several people dressed up in costume. Spider Man, Chewbacca, a Pirate...
and several others who we didn't recognize. We walked into the Chinese Theater area where
all of the handprint/footprint blocks are. It's amazing to see some of the origional
sets from the 30s that are still around and just as preserved as any of the newer squares.
We then walked into the Hollywood&Highland mall. It had a really great feel with huge
pillars and holiday decorations... almost like Ben Hur meets White Christmas. We meandered
around there for a while before heading over to the Disney store to see if we could purchase
tickets to the park.
