The Happiest Place on Earth
Right from the start, we started hearing smack talk from USC fans... who were also
Disney employees! A security guard and the ticket agent both started saying how Texas
was in trouble for the game. We just smiled and gave them a "Hook 'em"... which is far
better than their lame "V" hand sign.
The park was PACKED! We walked down Main Street USA stopping in a few shops and taking some pictures. At the end
of Main Street is the main circle and the "big" castle. It was really amazing how small the
castle is, especially compared to the one at Disney World.
We made our way to the New Orleans Square area to ride the Haunted Mansion. While the park
was crowded, the lines weren't that bad. We moved pretty quickly through to get
on the ride. The Mansion wasn't the traditional one as it had been changed for the holidays
(as we would find on many of the attractions). In line we met these two
young guys who told us that it had been re-themed to "The Nightmare
Before Christmas". It was still a great ride with a lot of the classic elements, like the
creepy elevator, dancing ghosts, and cheesy animatronics.
After the Haunted Mansion we headed over to Splash Mountain. The line for that was even shorter.
We couldn't have been in line more than a few minutes before getting on the ride. We tried
to pose for the picture that they take on the big drop, but Jonn's face blocked Jimmy and
they placed this "frame" around the image which covered up Jimmy's "Hook 'em". Several of
the employees running the ride were USC fans and made a few joking comments in our direction.
We ate dinner in Critter Country outside Splash Mountain then walked along the waterfront
over to the Pirates
of the Caribbean. Again, it was a REALLY short line... it felt like we just walked right
on in and into the little boat. It was as cheesy and wonderful as expected. It was a relief
that not all of the rides had been "updated" for the holidays.
Walking out of Pirates, we went into the gift shop. Jonn got this great fortune card from
one of those automated fortune machines while Jimmy got a phone call from a customer... a website
emergency. No amount of Disney magic can make that go away!
